Iconic: Sacred Art
Iconic, the Studio for Ancient Christian Painting Techniques, was established in March, 2013 as a division of the Michael J. Ward Memorial Foundation.
Iconic is a Sacred Christian Art Studio. Its goals and objectives include the following:
- To offer Sacred Art workshops in the Cincinnati area. The focus is on iconcography but the other disciplines of Manuscript Illumination and calligraphy, and supporting disciplines like gilding and preparation of a board for an icon, are offered. Instructors come to Cincinnati to offer their classes a couple of times each year, giving students in the Cincinnati area a choice of times to participate and more flexibility to suit their schedules.
- To evangelize/preach the message of Christ through Christian images. Through teaching and painting of Christian images, more people will come to know and see and understand the messages these images portray.
- To counter the bombardment in media and society of secular imagery with holy and instructive images of and about Jesus and his life and message. Through a prominent, beautiful location, posters are displayed and kept current according to the Liturgical Calendar. These posters advertise the upcoming classes and goings-on at the school but more importantly put Christian images into the eyes and minds of passing motorists.
- To encourage and promote the people who have chosen or simply feel called to teach and produce sacred art and iconography.
